Zaz's band blog number 1: The Cat Empire

The Cat Empire
So I've decided to write about bands as I get to listen to some awesome bands. To start it all off I just have to write about my favourite band: The Cat Empire. I'm sure you all know about them by now, but they rock my socks!

They started back in 2001 as a bunch of young bright eyed and bushy tailed kids wanting to mix musical styles and have become one of Australia's most exciting bands!

They're currently taking a little break, but if anyone deserves it, they do! They'll be back in full force at the end of the year, and so if you can catch them live i highly recommend it!

JazzVideo #1- Across from way out west

I think this whole "blogging from my website and not myspace" thing is starting to become addictive! After slaving away making a new myspace, I have decided to implement a "Zaz's video of the period" the reason it's period and not a definate amount of time is due to the fact that I'm not sure when I'll post the next one ie this blog thing may where off....

But anyway, the video I have decided to put up is from one of my favourite people, whom I met at the Noosa Jazz Festival. Mr James Flynn with "Hello Young Lovers":

Where has all the jazz gone?

I have just spent most of the morning trying to get in contact with Sydney venues that have jazz, but it is proving more and more difficult.

It is very sad that over the past two years, three yes THREE Sydney jazz venues have shut down. Soup Plus, the Winebanq and now the Woodfire. I then call up other places that have jazz only to be told that they have the same band playing every week and are not interested in having a different band anytime soon.

What is happening? Where has all the jazz gone?

In the mind of Jamie Cullum... wait no, ME!!

I have decided that a blog would be a good idea. This way you can all see what I get up to and how I spend my time! Yesterday I went to the Manly Jazz Festival with the lovely Carina. We saw Matt playing with Ingrid James and just wondered around.

We caught some of Michelle Nicolle, Doung Parkinson, PAU and then for the finale Jeff Duff and the Prophets at the Manly Boatshed. Jeff is great and one of my favourite people! He always puts on a fantastically entertaining show aswell. We headed over to the end of festival jam where we ran into Adrian too. We had quite a few laughs! I bought a dress from the markets. All around, it was a great day!

CD that i recommend this blog: In The Mind Of - Jame Cullum
